Stroke or mini-stroke (TIA)
Anyone who has had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA), at any time.
You must bring
- The hospital or stroke clinic letter with the diagnosis and the date.
- Any later clinic letters about recovery or ongoing problems.
What the DVLA says (Group 2 standard, used for D4 and taxi medicals)
- After a stroke or TIA, a bus or lorry licence is normally refused for at least 1 year. You must tell the DVLA.
- After that, you may be licensed if you have no lasting problems that affect driving.
Taxi and private hire medicals use this same Group 2 standard in most councils. Source: DVLA, Assessing fitness to drive.
Why we ask
